The Bentonian November 2023

Principal's Report November 2023

Early Commencement Assembly

Today I was filled with a sense of excitement, anticipation, and gratitude to be part of this incredible community to mark the beginning of a new academic year 2024 with an Early Commencement Assembly. It is a year filled with promise, potential, and endless possibilities with the School Strategic Plan, the rebuild of the Performing Arts Centre and establishment of the Vocational Major under the leadership of Bec Gemmola and team.  In addition, two new Wellbeing Centre have been built, next to each Sub School to facilitate better support in student services.

An excerpt of the Principals’ Assembly Address on Wednesday 15 November 2023:

As we embark on this new journey together, let us embrace the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. Each one of you brings a unique set of talents, ideas, and perspectives to our Bentleigh family, and it is this diversity that makes us stronger. This is a place where individuality is celebrated, where collaboration is key, and where every voice has the power to shape our collective story. This year let's make a commitment – to ourselves and to each other. Let's commit to approaching our studies with enthusiasm, to facing challenges with resilience, and to supporting one another in our quest for knowledge . . .    As we stand on the threshold of a new academic year, let's seize the opportunity to make it extraordinary. Let's challenge ourselves, lift each other up, and celebrate the achievements, both big and small. I am confident that, together, we will make this year one of growth, inspiration, and memorable experiences.

School Review

The draft report will be finalised in December and a Strategic Plan will be presented for the school to action the Annual Implementation Plan by the end of Term 1.

There is only one goal where the school will work on the HOW of learning. The school will look at effective best practice and pedagogy through consistent approach and high expectations to ensure student learning and wellbeing.

Class of 2023

Congratulations Class of 2023 at Bentleigh Secondary College! It's fantastic to see the achievements of the 'Bentonian Scholars' and the dedication of our teaching staff. The hard work and support undoubtedly contribute to a bright future for these students, filled with many successes in the future.

Raise Mentoring Program

At Bentleigh Secondary College, The Raise Mentoring Program has been a guiding light for our students in Years 8-10. With dedicated volunteer mentors, our students have found inspiration, support, and growth.
This year, 14 students, all from our very own school, graduated from the program. They shared their transformative experiences and the invaluable life skills they've gained through this program, all thanks to the incredible mentors.

We're thrilled to continue this fantastic program next year, with our mentors, both from within the school and the broader community, leading the way to a brighter future for our youth!

The Raise Mentoring program seeks to improve student wellbeing, engagement and self-confidence. Students from Years 8 to 10 work one-on-one, on a weekly basis with a volunteer mentor who has been carefully selected and has completed the Raise Best Practice Youth Mentoring training.
