2024 Australian Education Awards!


Congratulations on being honoured as a Secondary School of the Year Awardee at the 2024 Australian Education Awards, Bentleigh Secondary College! It's a remarkable achievement that reflects the dedication and hard work of our staff and the support of the Bentleigh community. Here's to celebrating  success and to continued excellence and growth in the future!


Secondly, congratulations on being recognized for The Best Wellbeing Program at the 2024 Australian Education Awards, Bentleigh Secondary College! Our dedication to student wellbeing is truly commendable, and it's evident that our staff's understanding of the importance of wellbeing contributes significantly to student success. Thank you for fostering a culture where everyone thrives, and here's to continuing this important work for the benefit of our students and the entire school community!

Thirdly, congratulations to Nicole Goodwin, Head of Arts, for being recognized as the Secondary School Teacher of the Year at the 2024 Australian Education Awards! Nicole's dedication to nurturing creativity and fostering a love for art among her students is truly inspiring. The winners of the Australian Education Awards 2024 will be announced Friday, 9 August 2024.



Year 7-9 Semester 1 Exams

English, Science and Maths exams, were on from 30 May 2024 – 3 June 2024.   All exams in A-Block (A1-7, A9-10) and under exam conditions.

Teachers provide students with more information and revision materials in the lead up to the exams.  If a student is absent on the day of their exam, they will need to contact their English, Science or Maths teachers and arrange to sit the exam at a later date.

2024 Mid-Year Semester 1 Trial Exams

Week 5 Schedule:

Remember, there will be no scheduled VCE Classes during Week 5. This time is dedicated to your exams, and students are only required to attend campus should they have an Exam. For Year 10 students, they are required to attend all scheduled classes, and will be excused to attend their exam. 
 

Exam Clash Protocol:
Should you encounter any clashes in your exam schedule, please inform the Senior School team at least 7 days prior to your exams. 

Specific Exam Details:

  • All exams are 90 minutes long, with 5 minutes allocated for reading and 85 minutes for writing. However, English exams are exempted from this rule.
  • For English and EAL exams, the duration is 120 minutes, including a 10-minute reading period (130 minutes in total).
  • Math exams have a 65-minute duration, including 5 minutes for reading time.


Key Information:

  • Arrive at school fifteen minutes before your exam's start time to ensure a prompt beginning.
  • Your teachers will inform you about the materials permitted in the exam room, such as calculators, reference books, rulers, etc.
  • Exams conducted in the VCE Centre, except for Languages and Music exams.
  • Special provisions exams will be held in DV08.
  • Please note that all VCE classes are cancelled from Monday, May 13, to Friday, May 17, to prioritize exam preparation.

 

VET Students:
Students are exempt from attending TAFE during exam week on Wednesday. If students do not have a scheduled Exam and can make it to TAFE, they are still expected to go.

Diving Success

SSV Region & State Diving Championships

Congratulations to Andrew J, Nicola S and Zac N who competed on Monday 22 April in the SMR and State diving competition at MSAC. They qualified due to achieving top 3 performances at the Kingston Carnival in March.

Congratulations to Zac N who also won a GOLD medal in the State Diving in the 15-16 boys age group.

Nicola and Andrew finished 3rd in the region and Zac finished 2nd in the region. In the State Championships, Nicola finished 7th and Andrew achieved 6th  which is a marvellous result.

Year 10 Technology Wood

Jenny's work in transforming a discarded piece of pine into a stunning creation is truly commendable. Her skill with the pyrography pen, especially as a first timer, is impressive and speaks volumes about her talent and dedication. Mr. Nic's praise highlights just how exceptional her work is. Congratulations, Jenny, on this remarkable achievement in ethical sustainability and craftsmanship!



Senior Girls Soccer

On May 16 2024 our Senior Girls Soccer Team became CHAMPIONS!

Not only did they dominate in the Grand Final with a 4-1 victory, thanks to goals from Georgia (x2), Gisselle, and Gracie, (aka the G-FORCE) but they also exemplified outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and grace off the field.

A huge shoutout to our amazing players and their incredible coaches, Mr. Dekker and Mrs. Papastergiou, for leading the team to this well-deserved VICTORY! Congratulations to everyone involved!



Year 10 OES Great Ocean Walk Camp

On Wednesday May 1st  through to  Friday May 3rd  2024 our Year 10 Unit 1 Outdoor & Environmental Studies students experienced the Outdoor Environments  - on the Great Ocean Walk at Apollo Bay.  

 

It was a 3-day / 2-night experience along the Great Ocean Walk in the Great Otway National Park.

Students were involved in several exciting activities throughout the camp, including bushwalking, cooking, curriculum sessions, and a lighthouse tour.

Each activity is designed to offer unique learning experiences, foster teamwork, and create lasting memories. 

The Year 10 OES campers excelled in the 3 day hike along the Great Ocean Road! Stunning views, perfect weather, and unforgettable memories.

Providing a healthy start to the day and is vital to learning.

Bentleigh Secondary College is part of the School Breakfast Clubs Program (SBCP). The Victorian Government has provided $58 million to the SBCP to provide healthy, nutritious food that helps sustain students during the school day. The program includes free breakfasts, lunches and holiday food supplies to students identified as requiring additional support.
This initiative is led by Mr Ryan, SRC Liaison Co-ordinator and our SRC students who provide free and healthy food to students ensuring all students have a healthy start to the day.


Sports Academy - Base Physio and Performance

Thank you Base Physio & Performance for the incredible support! We're thrilled by the growth seen in our Sports Academy at Bentleigh Secondary College. Looking forward to another term of learning, teamwork, and achievement!
In conjuction with Bentleigh Secondary College, Base Physio & Performance is not only focusing on building foundational skills but also exposing students to a variety of movement skills. Teaching Year 7 and 8 students about different fitness components and how to improve them is indeed valuable, as it can lay the groundwork for a healthier lifestyle as they grow into adulthood. It's wonderful to see initiatives like this aimed at promoting physical well-being and overall health among adolescents.

Generations In Jazz 2024

From Friday 3rd May to Sunday 5th of May our honoured and budding musicians participated in the prestigious 2024 Mt Gambier Generations In Jazz Festival. Students performed to professional adjudicators and students from other schools around Australia, they also attended workshops and saw professional musicians perform.
It was an inspiring event for our talented VCE students and young musicians.
