The Bentleigh Secondary College Sports Academy aims to maximise individual student’s sporting potential. The teachers and facilitators involved in the program recognise the need for students to balance their sport and training commitments with their academic studies.
The Academy's focus is on health, participation, improvement and leadership through exposure to quality sporting programs.
Involves coaching by a sport specific coach:
Students will be entered into the VSSSA competitions which are run through the school day and the Victorian Schools Championships.
The Year 8, 9 & 10 elective groups will be overseen by a member of the PE staff.
Each student will develop their own individual learning plan including goal setting and a plan of action.
Strength and Conditioning
Run by Chris Matthews from Active Lifestyle, as well as his work with the AFL Academy students.
The Strength and conditioning coach develops and implements plans for the students. A big focus is on education and injury prevention. This involves spending time on correct exercise technique and safely building strength.
An additional element to the strength & conditioning program is a Pilates program that is run by Helen Gleeson from Myolates. This program educates the students on the need for quality movement and how to get the best out of our bodies.
Bentleigh Secondary College has partnered with MyPhysio who come into the school and run educational sessions for the students twice a term on a variety of topics. They also complete an assessment on each student to identify any potential weaknesses and advise the best way to correct them.
We are proud to work with local people from the Bentleigh community. We support local business and they support us!
Chris, Helen, FSA, St Kilda FC & MyPhysio are all locals.
Due to the Covid 19 pandemic we now have a library of online videos that students can access to continue their training. In the future, we hope this very valuable resource will supplement our students training and learning at home.
